Healthy Low Carb Desserts – Kick Your Fat Habit

healthy low carb desserts

The problem with most low carb diets is that the foods are very bland, and some of them taste like cardboard. Many of these low carb diet plans have you follow a complicated menu plan with specific foods. While that can work, it’s also very time consuming and doesn’t offer a lot in the way of variety. When you eat the same things day in and day out, your palate is trained to expect the same thing.

Importance Of Other Nutrients

But it’s not just carbohydrates that get boring after a while. There are many other nutrients that are important to nutrition, but which aren’t so easily turned into digestible sugars. Fiber is one such nutrient that gets overlooked because it is a simple carbohydrate. Carbohydrates can be complex or simple. Simple carbohydrates come from fruit, vegetables and whole grains.

One type of complex carbohydrate is found in chocolate. So, yes, there is such a thing as a healthy low carb chocolate cake. It’s called chocolate cake and it can be delicious! But the chocolate flavor doesn’t taste like it should so it’s more likely to be a dessert than a meal. A much better choice is a “dieter” chocolate cake – something that still has a rich, moist and tasty flavor, but is much lower in fat.

A low carb dessert would be an excellent choice. One that isn’t quite a dessert but certainly tastes like one. If you’re trying to lose weight, you don’t want to be eating “disaster food” on a regular basis. Desserts can actually help you lose weight if they are low in calories and have nutritious ingredients. Especially, when these ingredients come from real, fresh, natural fruit sources.

Banana As A Great Example

One example is this: banana. If you use ripe bananas you can be sure they contain a very reasonable amount of carbohydrates. Bananas also have natural fiber. And who doesn’t love fiber! A healthy low carb dessert made with any fruit (organic if possible) is full of nutrients and will keep you satisfied for a long time.

Another delicious, low carb dessert idea is banana splits. This is a healthier alternative to French vanilla cake or angel food cake. Just remember that most “candy” manufacturers use white sugar. Yup, that’s the same stuff the “candy” industry uses! Look for more organic, natural sugar options.

Low Carb Dessert Muffin

Another option is this: Low Carb Dessert “Muffins”. You can bake the muffins, place them in a muffin pan, and freeze until ready to eat. A delicious, healthy low carb cake! Or, you could make some small “mock” cakes and freeze some of them to take as snacks.

Other healthy low carb options are things like peanut butter. Again, you can make healthier alternatives by using whole grain flour instead of refined white flour. Instead of using margarine, try using vegetable shortening. There are many different brands available. Some are even “all natural”. This way, you won’t be consuming any “unnatural” ingredients, yet you can still enjoy a delicious dessert.

Bottom Line

Don’t be in the “down and out” category just yet. While you’re in the “down and out” category, why not make some delicious low carb cookies? Cookies are usually my first choice, but there are some tasty, low carb alternative to cookie dough such as cake mix. Check out some recipes online, get creative and don’t be afraid to experiment. Your body will thank you!
