Some say that the word dessert is merely a synonym for a sweet. Others believe that the word dessert includes desserts of any kind and not just sugar. Still, others feel that dessert is a formal term referring to cakes, pies, and other baked desserts. Still, others believe that all desserts have to be sweet and serve no purpose other than to please the palate.

The truth is, we are all a little baffled by the very concept of what is dessert and what is not. You may be wondering why you ever started enjoying sweet things in the first place. Why on earth would anyone want to consume something sweet when it was going to make them sick anyway?

Other low-calorie desserts include all sorts of ice creams, sherbets, chocolate mousse, and puddings. These desserts will be your best bets when you have a craving.

All desserts will have some sugar, so you may be wondering why you are craving one. What makes a dessert sweet? Is it the taste of the sugar?
