Ingredients:

4 cooking apples (any variety)

2 tablespoons white sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (to keep apples from browning)

Cooking crumble ingredients: (mix these together and sprinkle over the top of your fruit before baking – be generous with your topping!) 1 cup plain flour 1/4 cup white sugar & & 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Optional: 2 tbsp oats. The mixture should resemble fine breadcrumbs.

Drizzle of Oil to grease the dish as well as a little bit of water as you want it nice and moist when put into the oven. If using an 8×8 pan create a layer of crumble on the bottom first then add apple mixture on top.

Steps

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 Fahrenheit) and grease an 8-inch square baking dish with oil and a little bit of water as well on the bottom first so it doesn’t stick.

2. Prepare apples by slicing into small pieces, discarding core and pips – keep the skin on. Sprinkle over lemon juice or vinegar to stop them from browning and mix together in a large bowl with 2 tbsp sugar.

3. In another bowl combine crumble mixture ingredients making sure they are mixed thoroughly (this can be done via sifting).

4. Add your fruit mixture into your baking dish, generously cover the top with topping mixture ensuring that there is at 5mm depth of crumble covering the top of the fruit. 5. Bake for between 35-45 minutes being careful not to burn the crumble on top. Serve with vanilla ice cream or just as is!
